Francis Bitonti’s 3D Print Dress creates a new future, where everyone can print customised clothes. Along with his workshop students, Francis Bitonti, fabricated a couture dress design, that is available for free download at Thingverse.com, with detailed instructions on how to adapt it to your specific tastes.
The creation of the dress required numerous techniques, designed to create volume through the process of printing, at two Makerbot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printers. The Upper half of Bitonti’s dress involves MakerBot’s PLA Filament in order to achieve translucency. Flexible Filament is being used for the skirt, which is lined with synthetic fur.
Bitonti states that technology as deeply connected to being human and for this reason he emphasised in creating an interesting overall silhouette combining both artificial and natural textures.
